Maeghan Bassett, B.A.
Owner, Creative Director & overall Chaos Coordinator
I have specialized in supporting individuals in acute crisis for over 20 years, in settings which have ranged from homeless shelters, crisis & behavioural management programs, hospitals, and walk-in counselling. Most recently, I spent 8 years in a First Response role and then another year at the Regional level where I focused on coordinating our systemic response for those at Acutely Elevated Risk (AER). I’ve found this field to be incredibly fulfilling - but also draining and, at it’s worst, traumatizing for me as well. My education in mental health gave me the insight to know that I needed to prioritize self care, but we only have 24 hours in a day and my days felt quite full already.
I decided to accept that adding some of the traditional “self care activities” to my To Do list just wasn’t realistically something I could always do. Instead, I started to look at how I could make the things I was already doing a little bit more enjoyable so that I could build some pockets of peace right into my daily routines. I started out making sugar scrubs because I figured that since I have to shower anyway, I might as well make it a more mindful and relaxing setting while exfoliating and moisturizing my skin at the same time. I started making bath bombs/fizz when my youngest child had awful eczema in order to protect his skin from drying out. From there, I just kept looking for simple ways I could make my day-to-day life easier and then started gifting the items I made to friends & family so they could enjoy them as well. As it turns out, they REALLY liked them and wanted more. Those of you who’ve been supporting me from the beginning know that I quietly created this place i love around a decade ago simply as a way to organize all the requests I was getting. I had a vision for what this business could potentially become, but when it became too busy I had to step back (I had, after all, started out to support my own work/life balance – not add more stressors).
I've learned a lot about myself and my boundaries over the last few years and I’ve slowly grown out of the enclosed-but-safe space where I started. I’ve pushed past the barriers that arose along the way and dug deep to establish a solid foundation – both for myself and for this little initiative. The first half of my career has been spent focusing on how to prevent crisis and it has been incredibly fulfilling. For the second half, I'd like to devote myself to supporting and maintaining wellness so that we can all feel that sense of fulfillment in a welcoming, safe and resilient community.
My clinical experience using various therapeutic techniques to support others navigating hard times, along with my personal experiences struggling to maintain my own wellness during that process has given me a unique perspective on what lasting “wellness” looks like in our lives. So, I’m creating practical and playful tools and experiences which are designed to spark reflection, resilience, and connection.
Because balance isn’t something you FIND, it’s something you create when you begin to transform moments of TIME into moments of serenity. I hope you’ll join me on my path to craft wellness and cultivate joy.
Take care,
Maegs

The Niagara region of Ontario, Canada is situated on treaty land. This land is steeped in the rich history of the First Nations such as the Hatiwendaronk, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement’s three principles: to take only what you need, leave enough for others, and always keep the dish clean.
Acknowledging the peoples whose territory we are on, and the agreements that guide their stewardship of the land, reminds us to reflect on and respect their unique relationship to this land. It also is an invitation for all of us to identify and engage in actions that respect and reinforce our commitments to Truth & Reconciliation and Indigenous Rights.
